Youghiogheny River, August 8. We were was paddling the loop on Friday afternoon with trip leader Gary Leander and a group of six. I was first down Cucumber, and spotted the commercial photographer, so I went directly into the big hole up top. Anyone who has paddled this drop knows that it is in shadow most of the day. Most good photos here are taken running the hole or the pour-over rock above it. I didn't have much speed; the river was shallow (1.93 ft on the gage) and I just slid into the hole. Here's what happened while bracing on foam. -- Eric Pavlak.
